Blog Fixer Upper

I decided it was time to spruce things up here on the blog. When I started writing to you seven years ago (SEVEN! Good grief, has it been that long?!!), the name There and Back Again fit because I was returning to the Midwest where I grew up after almost two decades in New England. Here, there, and back again.

Since that time, a lot has changed. I was a two-year divorcee when I moved to Kansas. Then I met the love of my life, The Picky Eater. We married and had a lovely time together until he died three years ago. Now I’m living a widow’s life after learning I can be happy and find joy while keeping the love I had for him tucked safely away in my heart.

I’ve also fallen in love with Kansas….the Sunflower State. The wide-open spaces here are breathtaking. You can see for miles, watch storm clouds roll in, and the sunsets are spectacular! The people are friendly and welcoming. I enjoy meeting hardworking farmers who till thousands of acres and raise hundreds of cattle/pigs but still see their operation as a family farm because…well, it is! And I love living just a block away from the Capitol building in downtown Topeka. (Yes, Kansas has urban areas, too.)

My love of the state started to show in my writing… so much so that the Food Network contacted me this summer to compile a list of the iconic dishes of Kansas! That’s one of the reasons I haven’t posted on here much. I spent a big chunk of the summer going to different restaurants to take photos of some tasty dishes. You can check them out here!

It was during that time I decided to change my blog’s name to A Sunflower Life. I think it fits my writing since most of my posts feature my life here. Not that I won’t share stories of other places, but it will always be with my heart in Kansas.
